WSOT Spotlight: Navigating The Markets Through Sherpa’s Eyes

If you have been following WSOT’s commentary on 𝕏, you’d see his name plastered all over – “@AltcoinSherpa”. So who is this Orderly fren bringing you all the updates on WSOT?

AltcoinSherpa has been deep in the crypto game since 2016 and going full degen since 2018. Coming from the gaming scene, Bitcoin first caught his eye as the ultimate way to send money across the globe—cheaper, faster, safer. Bought his first Bitcoin in early 2016, rode the 2017 hype train, then got rekt in 2018. That loss was the wake-up call—time to git gud at trading. After grinding Twitter, Google, books, and vids, he leveled up in 2019. Now, he's an active retail trader, dabbling in ventures, testing every app out there, and living in the altcoin trenches. Obsessed with the crypto world, AltcoinSherpa plans to ride this wave forever.

He was also super influential in putting together the ongoing WSOT, leveraging his network of KOLs frens he’s built over the years.

His social channels (𝕏, telegram & youtube) already give insightful market tea, but we sat with him to see the crypto market through his eyes – degen style.

-What did you do before you became "AltcoinSherpa"?

I worked in the gaming industry, specifically online poker. After playing for a while, I decided to work in the industry from the business side. Poker and crypto have a lot of similarities; namely the variance, imperfect information, and psychological hardships.

-Given how active you are, how much time do you spend on CT daily on average?

It varies. I used to spend all day on CT but it’s a bit hard to get work done. If you’re learning, I think you can probably still spend a lot of time on there and still get some alpha. It’s just a bit harder than it used to be. I think that I spend an average of 2+ hours on CT each day.

If you wanted to make it as a crypto influencer, what advice would you give to people?

I wouldn’t recommend going about it purely as an influencer. Generally speaking, most everyone just posts on there to have fun and learn…and if you happen to get followers, that’s just a bonus. I’ve seen two paths to becoming an influencer:

- 1) You are just learning and start from the ground up. You share trade ideas or alpha on all of the stuff you have learned/understand and you are giving free education. You aren’t necessarily smart and you’re kind of ‘learning on the job’. This is the path for most every influencer I’ve talked with.

- 2) You already are an advanced trader/analyst/shitcoiner and you already cut your teeth in the industry. Your main contribution to Twitter is shitposting, where you actually need to be pretty competent in order to do it well. Most of the big shitposters are actually very smart, successful guys who sometimes offer alpha but most often do not.

In summary, I would never recommend you post on twitter JUST to become a crypto influencer. Go on there to make friends, find a community, and talk to some different people to learn. The crypto community is both very big and very small at the same time.

-Does your family even understand what you do on X all day?

Not really

-What was your best trade ever?

I had some great trades in 2021; riding SOL from 20-200 and AVAX from 10-100. My best trade I’ve had though was probably PEPE from 5m- the top in 2023. Contextually speaking, it was absolutely wild to see PEPE do what it did during that period of the market + the overall environment. I also sold near the top too.

-If you have $10K capital, how would you try to make it this cycle?

It depends on your level of activity. If you’re super active, there are a lot of ways to make it with 10k. Finding your edge is a whole big post/journey in itself but there are many more options in crypto today than there was 5 years ago. I’d probably try to learn the meme sector very well and study the fundamentals (yes, there are some) and try to invest in some of the midcaps.

If you’re talking about ‘making it’ ie. taking 10k into 7 figures +, you have to amp up the risk though, which is inadvisable for most people. I think going the mid cap memes is probably the safer route while still giving good upside.

-Memecoins are super popular right now. What are your thoughts on them? Any good learnings from $NPC?

I’m still a big fan of memes and still believe they are the primary coins to look for if you are looking to make it huge in crypto. I wrote some thoughts in this twitter thread: https://twitter.com/AltcoinSherpa/status/1803418432924234220

The tl;dr of it is: I think that memes will continue to be the best way to make $ for crypto participants because crypto, as it currently stands, is still the best casino on earth. Most retail traders are here for the money and memes are the easiest, cleanest, most fair (usually) way to participate.

-When did you first hear of Orderly? What's your reading on the ongoing WSOT?

I heard about Orderly through Audrey, a former Orderly team member. I participated in the WOO private round and have been in contact with the team for years. I also became good friends with Arjun at Orderly and we chatted often.

The current WSOT is fantastic. I think that this competition has been a rousing success thus far; mostly in part because we have so many great traders in it. I think it also really highlights the great benefits of Orderly overall and how versatile it is. Traders are trading on many different dexes and they’re all powered by Orderly. Pretty cool stuff.

-Putting you in the hotseat now(lol)! Who are you rooting for to win? We know you've got some friends in WSOT. Untitled picture.png

My three best friends in the competition are Theo, Timeless, and Byz. I’ve been talking to those guys for many years and have met Byz in real life twice as well. So any of those three would be amazing. I understand they’re also going against some heavyweights though and it’s going to be very hard to beat Su and Defisquared

-What's your least favorite thing about the space right now? If there's something you could change, what would that be?

I honestly am not sure I know the least favorite thing off the top of my head. Maybe just all of the hacks/scams associated with crypto. It’s horrible and I’ve lost loads of money due to scams in the past and I feel bad for all of the newcomers who deal with it. I almost want to say it’s a rite of passage but maybe that’s too harsh.

-In your experience, what would be the most important trait one must have to be successful in the market?

Strong opinions, loosely held. Have an idea but you must be open to the idea of being wrong and changing your outlook based on the information that you are given. Crypto is so volatile and fluid that you have to be able to make hard decisions on the fly.

-Finally, if everything went to zero tomorrow, sorta like a crypto-armageddon, what would you do?

I honestly don’t know; I’ve gone all in in this industry and love it so much. I would be extremely lost without it. With that said, I’ve never had a real job and I don’t plan on ever getting one, so I would probably try something in real estate or something much more boring than crypto.

All systems operational.
